If you're looking for a class, the evaluation criteria below will help you vet anyone you find through your own search.
What to look for in a CCW instructor
Actual certification
Look for certification through a recognized body — NRA Certified Instructor, USCCA Certified Trainer, or your state's official approved-instructor list (many states publish one). Ask to see it.
Live-fire component
If your state requires range qualification for a permit, confirm the class actually includes it — some "online-only" courses don't satisfy every state's requirement even if advertised as a "concealed carry class."
Legal-use-of-force content
A good class spends real time on when you're legally justified to use force, not just marksmanship. If the entire class is shooting fundamentals with no legal discussion, that's a gap.
Class size and attention
Ask how many students per class and per instructor on the range. One instructor watching 20 people on a live-fire range is a safety concern, not just a quality one.
Safety protocol
Ask about their range safety rules and whether they require eye/ear protection, cover the four basic safety rules explicitly, and have a plan for a malfunction or accidental discharge.
Reviews from real students
Check Google reviews and ask the instructor directly for references. A long track record with consistent positive feedback is worth more than a slick website.
